We’ve seen all kinds of crazy engine swaps over the years. Especially at auto shows of SEMA’s pedigree. But this V8 Hellcat-powered Toyota Prius made by American Racing Headers of Long Island, New York is by far one of the most unorthodox swaps we’ve seen recently. As bonkers as this guy’s 1967 Pontiac Firebird/Toyota Prius mashup. It’s wrong on so many levels that it’s actually satisfyingly good.
By sporting a Hellcat V8 engine under its hood, this PriuSRT8 effectively gives a middle finger to the EPA, green car and environment protection enthusiasts, and hybrid electric concept as a whole. Not only does it pack a hellish 707-horsepower 6.2L V8, but a 4.5L Whipple blower as well.
This dynamic duo helps the Prius raise as much as 800 horses at the wheels according to American Racing Headers’ owner Nick Filippides. This means that they send close to 1,000 crank horsepower to the ground via a 6-speed manual Tremec T56 Magnum transmission, carbon fiber driveshaft, and a Ford 9-inch rear end.
